Lizards
The lizards never bit Stanley or Zero, but they were hungry. Why did the lizards never bite the boys? When Stanley first tries to get out of the hole, the lizard digs his claws into him. When the attorney arrived, the lizards slid off of Stanley and Zero easily. Thought?

Sunflower Seeds
After watching the youtube Holes video about Stanley going to the Warden's cabin becuase he says he stole the sunflower seeds from Mr. Sir, write any observations you made about the similarities or differences from the video to the book. Why do you think changes were made? Why do you think some things stayed the same? Use chapter 20 to help.
Destiny
Discuss what has happened to Stanley and Zero. How did all the events come together? Was "God's Thumb" the same place Stanley's great grandfather found refuge? How do you know?

Holes chapters 1-7
I am so excited we can blog at school now! For your first challenge, think about what happens in chapters 1-7 of Holes. Do you think you would be friends with Stanley? How are you like Stanley? Have you ever been to camp before where you didn't know anyone? How does that feel? Post any thoughts or questions you have about the book!
Holes movie trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otu_A37AOhw&NR=1
Watch the above Holes movie trailer. The author of the book, Louis Sachar, wrote the screenplay for the movie as well. After watching the trailer, does the movie seem to follow the book? Do you notice any differences? Why do you think the author made some changes from the book to the movie?

Stanley's no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather
We have learned through flashbacks about Elya Yelnats, Stanley's great, great grandfather. When asked by Mr. Pendanski who was to blame for Stanley being in Camp Green Lake, Stanley said his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Everyone laughed, but do you think Stanley believes in the curse? What makes you think that? Do you think people can be lucky or unlucky? Do you have any examples of people who were lucky or unlucky?
